Module
for tuning continuous-time PI and PID
PURPOSE
The majority of the control loops in
industry is using PI and PID controllers. The actual
implementation is done using various control devices, often
using a discretized version implemental on a micro-computer :
Digital Control System, Stand-Alone Controller, Programmable
Controller, ... Parametrisation of theses controllers is
however always made through the coefficients of
continuous-time PID.
The point is that adjustement of such control loops is often
far from the optimal one. This leads to a lack in the quality
of the controlled product, and to a bad behaviour in case the
dynamics of the plant vary a little (because of modification
of the operating point or of the characteristics of the
plant).
Thaim of this add-on is to complete the software for
controller desing and analysis, WinREG (or PC-REG), by
providing a robust tuning of continuous-time PI and PID
controllers. This computation is done using the model of the
plant to be controlled (resultinge leads to a lack in the
quality of the controlled product, and to a bad behaviour in
case the dynamics of the plant vary a little (because of
modification of the operating point or of the characteristics
of the plant).
The characteristics of the plant can for example be obtained
from an identification with WinPIM or PIM software. The
controller parameters are then computed using methods which
have been recently developped in order to insure a good
robustness of the adjustement in respect with variations in
the process dynamics : the KLV method for PI controller or dor
PID controller, or a specific method for the case of plants
with resonant modes.
SOFTWARE DESCRIPTION
As a number of different structures for
continous-time PI and PID are encountered in industry, this
add-on module offers a parametrisation of the continous-time
controller to be used. Derivative action may be applied on
error or on measurement only ; so does proportional action ; a
pre-filter may be used on the reference ; several constraints
on the filter of derivative action may be imposed. The user
may modify the resulting adjustement thanks to an unique
coefficient : the accelerating/slowing down factor.
As this add-on module is integrated in WinREG (or PC-REG)
software, all the functionnalities of this software are
directly available to issue closed-loop simulations, or to
analyse the robustness of the resulting design. |
