DMCK ( Digital Media Evaluation Kit )
Introduction

     

  DMCK 是特別用來發展 FPGA 的發展套件,主要用來發展需要和 DSP 共同處理的應用,如聲音、影像和網路等。 DMCK 套件包含了硬體平台、完整的程式庫和一般發展 DSP FPGA 範例的原始程式。

  • It enables you to develop your first co-processing application very rapidly, as low-level and applicative interfaces between DSP and FPGA are delivered in both environments.
  • The hardware platform includes audio and video inputs and outputs, connected both to FPGA and DSP, so that video or audio stream processing can be developed in software and then ported to FPGA. It can also include an IDE drive interface, PC104, extension port, etc.
  • This development platform provides an ideal environment for the development and prototyping of a wide range of embedded applications, particularly in the video and audio field (broadcast, broadband, video-security, medical, military, transportation, industrial, etc…).
  • The DSP-FPGA Co-processing development platform contains everything needed for system-level design, whether the user has a background in hardware or not, thanks to Altera new-generation FPGA design software and to easy-to-use APIs for DSP.

This new kit supports Ateme’s complete software offer for audio and video compression.

Processing resources :

  • Altera’s Cyclone EP1C20F324C8ES (50 k Gates),
  • Texas Instruments’ TMS320DM642 DSP @ 600 Mhz,
  • Altera’s MAX® EPM3128ATC100 CPLD,
  • 32 MB SDRAM,
  • 4 MB Flash,
  • 32 kBytes local SRAM on FPGA.


Audio and video features :

The audio and video interfaces address the whole range of analog and digital media systems.

Video interfaces :

  • BT.601, BT.656, SMPTE nn digital input and ouput provided by direct access to DM642 Video Port on extension connector,
  • On-board 2 channels analog video capture (NTSC or PAL),
  • On-board analog video generation (NTSC or PAL),
  • On-board VGA output,

Audio interfaces :

  • On-board analog audio capture (stereo + microphone input),
  • On-board stereo analog audio playback.

General-use interfaces :
A large number of different interfaces allow any kind of applications and specificity.

  • Host Port Interface,
  • Serial links interfaces for data: McASP, I2C,
  • Dual UART with RS-232 or RS-422 level,
  • Ethernet 10/100 Mbps,
  • High-speed 32 bits expansion port,
  • 4 General Purpose IO’s.

  • Real Time Clock (RTC) circuitry with on-board battery
  • 5 User programmable LEDs
  • 2 User DIP-switches
  • JTAG emulation for DSP and FPGA
  • Power-on reset circuitry

Software development tools :
Software engineers do not need any prior FPGA design experience to use the DMCK DSP-FPGA development platform.
It includes world-class development tools and complete documentation as well as multiple reference designs and a step-by-step software development tutorial to get users up and running immediately.
Users will be writing, compiling, and running software on their board within minutes of opening the box.

  • Altera’s Quartus II Web edition Software Suite, including:
    o Quartus® design software
    o SOPC Builder system development tool
    o NIOS II development tool
  • Texas Instruments’ Code Composer Studio (v 2.21 or higher), in option
