Advanced code generation tools - Code Composer Studio is founded on the TI's highly advanced 'C5000 C compiler, assembler and linker. These tools give designers a highly efficient, user-centered mechanism to extract the code parallelisms that make the TI chips so powerful.

• C5000 C Compiler - The C Compiler accepts ANSI C source code and produces efficient C54x or C55x assembly language source code, performing a wide variety of optimizations to improve the efficiency of the compiled code. User's migrating from the C54x to the C55x architecture simply re-assemble their C54x assembly source code with the C55x target chosen in the Code Composer Studio set up.    The compiler incorporates four user selectable levels of state-of-the-art generic and target-specific optimizations. The C compiler was validated with the Perenial, Plum-Hall C Validation Suite and the K&R Test.

  The 'C5000 Optimizing C Compiler/Assembler/Linker, was designed with three major efficiency goals in mind:

  • Produce compiled general-purpose C code that approaches the performance of hand-coded assembly language.
  • Provide a simple and accessible programming interface to the C run-time environment so that critical DSP algorithms, demanding extreme performance, can be implemented in assembly language.

• C5000 Visual Linker - TI's new Visual Linker for 'C5000 DSPs dramatically simplifies linking, reduces time-to-market, decreases application size and helps boost performance. As a plug-in module to Code Composer Studio, the tools is built from the same open architecture. The Visual Linker is the industry's first to use a simple, Window's Explorer - like interface to graphically combine object files and memory maps to form executable applications. The Visual Linker also contains a powerful extensible linking engine to supporting a completely interactive and visual WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) environment.

  　

• TAP5000 - The Translation Assistant Program (TAP) is a highly interactive, assembly language source translation tool for TMS320C5x customers who are interested in upgrading to a higher perfoming TI DSP product line. The TAP5000 will help you to easily port your TMS320C5x application code to the power efficient, high perfomance TMS320C54x DSPs.

  　

• Code Composer IDE Simulator - Prior to DSP hardware availability, designers can use Code Composer Simulator to simulate the actual execution of DSP code without the presence of a DSP chip, in parallel with hardware development. Developers can also use the simulator for concurrent and field development. The simulator reduces costs by providing a team of developers access to the development environment through a software interface rather than through hardware.

  　

• Open Plug-In Architecture - Code Composer Studio provides standard open Application Program Interfaces (APIs), allowing third parties to build higher-level products that add functionality to the environment. Designers can now extend their complete TI development system with a wide variety of specialized third-party tool plug-ins that support their specific application needs. As a result, DSP developers no longer have to spend time and resources in creating customized utilities, focusing instead on building more robust DSP applications. Many plug-ins are standalone products that are seamlessly integrated into a single IDE so that all data is shared among applications.
