DESCRIPTION
The C3x Evaluation Module (EVM) provides a low-cost development board for device evaluation, benchmarking, and limited system debug. The EVM is a half-size AT board with a 33MHz C30 DSP, 16K words of SRAM, a TLC32044 analog interface chip (AIC) with two RCA jacks for line-level analog input and output, and a host port interface for communication with the PC. C3x EVM application software is available on the TI BBS.

The EVM uses embedded scan-based emulation via the on-board Test Bus Controller (TBC) IC. Using the scan path, the Debugger Software can run and halt the C3x and scan in and out all of the bits of each register. This basically gives XDS510 capability for a fixed target system enabling you to evaluate the C3x DSP and tools or begin development of software before your hardware is complete.

FEATURES
  • Modification/display of memory and registers
  • Assembler
  • Software single-step and breakpoint capabilities
  • On-board memory
  • Host upload/download capabilities
  • I/O capability

TMS320C3x Debugger Interface

The TMS320 Debugger Interface is used with all TMS320 Simulator, Emulator, and EVM products including the C3x Simulator, C3x XDS510/XDS510WS Emulator Debugger and the C3x EVM Debugger.

Texas Instruments

The Debugger allows you to run and halt the processor; view and modify registers, memory values and C variables; and view disassembly and C source. Debugger features include:

¡@

  • Ability to start and halt the C3x with single-step (step-into), step-over (next), run, and halt commands.
  • A friendly window-, mouse-, and menu-oriented user interface that reduces learning time and eliminates the need to memorize complex commands.
  • Support for debugging in C, assembly language, or both.
  • Profiling capabilities that show where to focus development time by identifying time-consuming sections of the program.
  • CPU window that displays the values of the DSP registers.
  • Disassembly window that displays the address, opcode and disassembly of the program and highlights the current instruction.
  • C source window that displays the C code and highlights the current line.
  • Memory window that displays the values of a block of memory in any format specified.
  • Watch window that displays the values of variables in their native C format (float, int, char, enum or pointer) or lets you choose a different format.
  • Display windows that display the values of arrays and structures.
  • Command window that can be used to enter commands and view the response to commands.
  • Pull-down menus and function keys that provide quick access to frequently-used commands.
  • Ability to point the mouse, click and type in order to change the value of data in any window.
  • Screen update whenever the C3x halts.
  • Support for a powerful command set
  • Configurable screen colors, window sizes and window positions.
  • Ability to set and clear software breakpoints in the disassembly or C source windows with a mouse click.

CONTENTS

The C5x EVM package includes the PC Assembly Language Tools which consists of the assembler, archiver, linker and hex conversion utility. The C compiler is sold separately.

The C5x EVM package also includes the same TMS320 Debugger Interface that is used with all TMS320 Simulator, Emulator and EVM products.

TMS320C3x/C4x Assembler/Linker The TMS320C3x/C4x Assembler/Linker, also called the TMS320 Floating Point DSP Assembly Language Tools is available without the compiler for those who do not plan to write C code. This package is also available with the the C3x EVM. The package includes the following programs:

¡@

  • The assembler translates assembly language source code into machine language COFF object files. It also supports a macro language that enables users to create their own "instructions".
  • The archiver allows you to manage archive files (also called libraries) which consist of a collection of source code files or COFF object files.
  • The linker allows you to combine COFF object files into a single executable COFF output file. The linker allocates relocatable sections, symbols and resolves external references between input files.
  • The hex conversion utility allows you to convert a COFF output file into ASCII-Hex, Intel, Tektronix, Motorola-S, or TI-Tagged Object file formats that can be used as input to an EPROM programmer.
